2 Philippine Emergency Guerilla Notes WWII Issues 1942

Time Left: 0 Seconds |  | | For More Details: Click here | | These two Philippine Island Guerilla issued notes are all in very nice condition. They are uncirculated or very close. They are in extremely good condition considering their age of over 60 years and the type of paper they were printed on. Both notes are from Bohol Province in the central Philippines. These notes are listed by Shafer numbers from his 1974 classic book on this topic. They are: (All 1942 notes) BOH-102, Twenty-five Centavos, Uncirculated; (This note has some minor 'foxing' along the top and bottom edges, and it is about an eighth of an inch taller than the other note.) BOH-103, Fifty Centavos, Uncirculated . Very, very nice notes for the times! The Philippine Islands were awarded Commonwealth status by the US Government in 1935 and were partially under control of the United States at the start of WWII. They obtained full independence in 1946. During the war various provinces, and communal and military authorities issued what has become known as "Emergency" or "Guerilla Currency" to be used in the Islands. All of this was Emergency Currency, and the classic reference book (now out of print) is by Neil Shafer, and they are mentioned in Schwan and Boling's classic, "World War II Remembered". There is another good book regarding guerillas in the Phillipines (American Guerilla in the Philippines") . It has a few pages in it describing the manufacture of these types of notes.
