Item Description

Nova Costellatio - 1783 Historic Colonial Replica

Description

Interesting, Beautiful, Historical

To my knowledge, the best representation of authentic historical colonial coins out there.

Excellent item & low price = Value to you

Your satisfaction guaranteed

What you are bidding on is a replica of an original coin. These replicas were made by taking an impression from original coins in private collections or from various museums and historical sites. These reproductions are cast in pewter alloy, which resemble the weight and feel of the originals. They are electroplated in copper, nickel (silver) or real gold. Then they are antiqued and hand-burnished to faithfully duplicate the rich appearance of the old coins. These replicas look old and the unique way they are created means that no two replicas look exactly alike, just like you would expect from the real coins.

An authentic colonial coin could sell for hundreds or thousands of dollars. In the case of the Nova Constellatio, the value for an original coin would be over $100,000.  Here is your opportunity to have a replica of an actual colonial coin at a significant fraction of the cost.

These handsome replicas make distinctive gifts and memorabilia for historic occasions. They will also serve as valuable teaching aids and provide interesting exhibits.

Nova Constellatio - 1783
The Nova Constellatio pieces undoubtedly represent the first patterns for coinage of the United States. They were designed by Benjamin Dudley for Gouverneur Morris to carry out his ideas for a decimal coinage system. The 1,000 unit designation he called a mark, the 500 a quint. These denominations, together with the small 100-unit piece, were designed to standardize the many different coin values among the several states. These pattern pieces represent the first attempt at a decimal ratio, and were the forerunners of our present system of money values. Neither the proposed denominations nor the coins advanced beyond the pattern stage. These unique pieces are all dated 1783.

Hobby Protection Act

The replicas in this auction are marked with the word copy on one side. (see pictures) It is usually obvious but sometimes it is weak. The The Hobby Protection Act, 15 U.S.C. § 2101, et. seq., requires manufacturers of imitation numismatic items to mark plainly and permanently such items with the word "copy."  Failure to do so may constitute an unfair or deceptive act or practice pursuant to the Federal Trade Commission Act.
